Court Directory

The United States has a dual court system. Federal courts handle cases involving federal law, the U.S. Constitution, bankruptcy, and disputes between states. State courts handle most criminal cases, family law, probate, contract disputes, and property matters.

Federal Courts

Federal courts include district courts (trial courts), courts of appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Bankruptcy courts operate within the federal district court system.

State Courts

Each state has its own court structure, which may include trial courts, intermediate appellate courts, and a state supreme court or court of appeals.
